Jon Mielke

NDCF is deeply saddened to report the passing of dear friend and fellow board member, Jon Mielke.

Jon served on the board since the Foundation was created in 1998. He was involved with the sport of curling for 50 years and was a founding member of Bismarck’s Capital Curling Club. He held every position on the North Dakota Curling Association’s board of directors and was a vice president of the United States Curling Association.

He headed the USCA’s Instruction Committee for six years and wrote over 40 training articles during his nine years as a columnist for US Curling News. He was the chairman of the 2002 World Men’s and Women’s Curling Champions and the 2002 World Senior Curling Championships.

In 2012 he was elected into the United States Curling Hall of Fame. Jon was a Level III instructor and coach. He coached primarily junior teams for 20 years and helped his teams win five silver and bronze medals at national championships.

He was a 1997 North Dakota state men’s curling champion and won four state men’s senior championships. His team was runner-up in the 2004 national senior championship and he was a skip on the 2012 Men’s Scotland Tour team.
